The Adventures of Podge The Penguin - Rosy Turnbull, Reception Year Leader, Publishes her first Book 

Tired of feeling cold, Podge the Penguin decides to go on holiday. With his suitcase packed, he embarks on his first ever adventure to the UAE! He builds sandcastles on the corniche, meets native animals and marvels at the local landmarks! 

It's always so inspiring when someone pursues a passion and sees it through to fruition, and this is the case with Rosy Turnbull, our Reception Year Leader.  Rosy has just published her first book through Austin Macauley publishers, which are based in Sharjah, London, Cambridge and New York. They accepted the manuscript submission in January 2020 and worked for nearly 18 months with her, to create the perfect illustrations before publishing.

"Writing children's literature has always been an aspiration of mine. I have a huge passion for Storytelling and 'Talk for Writing' in Early Years, and believe children benefit greatly from this in their future writing, by having simple texts they can imitate and innovate. 'If you can't say it, you can't write it.' So with this in mind, I wanted to write a children's book with simple language and structure that young children could follow. The Adventures of Podge the Penguin encourages children to think about what might happen next.  Since reading the book in Nursery and Reception I've had many suggestions from my little readers as to where he should visit on his next adventure, what he might see or who he might meet. So I'm really looking forward to innovating the story in Reception!"

"Since moving to Abu Dhabi in August 2014, I developed an awareness of the need for links to the UAE within our curriculum. There were only a small number of books available that were UAE based so it became a goal of mine to write my own for teachers and schools to use as a cross curricular topic. Like Podge, I love feeling the warm sun on my skin so the idea of a penguin visiting Abu Dhabi was always on my mind."
