Spotlight on a Music Scholar - Sharadhi
Sharadhi is a Diploma violinist here at BSAK who is soon to be moving on to study medicine at university - we asked her how her experience of music at BSAK has influenced her over the years - she has been a BSAK student since the age of 7.
What do you enjoy about music?
- I love the diversity of music and the vast number of ways you can use it to express yourself. I also love how close together it brings people and how it spreads joy.
What difference has being a Scholar made to you?
- Being a scholar has allowed me to mentor younger musicians and share my experiences with them to help them develop as musicians, and it has enhanced my leadership skills.
It has also given me more performance opportunities and opened my eyes to musical nuances beyond playing pieces.
You are coming to the end of your time at BSAK. What musical memories do you have?
- I don’t think I’ve ever had a bad memory of the Music Department. It has always been my second home, and it is such a welcoming environment.
Some of my favourite memories include being able to play in concerts and competitions with my friends and support them, completing and passing my diploma in violin, playing in the Joseph band, and working with all the teachers.
Where do you see yourself taking music in the future when you go to university?
- I really hope to continue playing at university, and I think finding a good orchestra to join as well as doing my own private practice will de-stress my mind from the challenges of medicine.
Mr Norkie, our Head of Strings had this to say about teaching Sharadhi...
I have known Sharadhi for a few years now and her dedication to the violin and work ethic were obvious from her first lesson.
Sharadhi immediately impressed me with her passion and love for the violin as well as her meticulous approach to preparing her pieces.
It was clear from the first meeting that she had a promising musical awareness and a natural aural ability to play the violin to a very high standard.
Sharadhi was always eager to learn as much as she could and she was clearly very committed to perform to the best of her ability.
This has been celebrated on several occasions over the last few years in the form of concerts, competitions and her ABRSM diploma examination.
The Music Department will really miss Sharadhi's natural energy and enthusiasm for music and we wish her all the best at university and beyond!
