WHAT IS THE SPEAR'S SCHOOL INDEX?

The Spear's Schools Index is an essential guide for international families, advisors to Ultra-High Net Worth Individuals (UHNWs), and those considering relocation to key global destinations. Focused on academic excellence, distinctive educational ethos, and future readiness, it provides valuable insights into the world’s top schools. In partnership with the expert team at Thuso, Spear’s has compiled a thorough ranking that takes into account the varied needs and preferences of discerning families, featuring the top 100 schools worldwide for 2025, with schools categorised by region, including the UK, Switzerland, Europe, North America, the Middle East, Asia Pacific, and beyond.

Each school has been selected based on in-depth consultations with expert education consultants and the following are considered beyond academic performance.

  • Academic excellence is important but not the sole criterion; a holistic approach to education is favoured.
  • Social, cultural, and pastoral factors are also key considerations when finalising the index. Schools that excel academically but fall short in these areas may be excluded and increasing importance is placed on cultural and value-based factors, with an emphasis on open debate and critical thinking.
  • A school’s reputation and standing significantly influence its character, the families it attracts, and its regional and international position. Long-established schools in the index continue to attract generations of international families, demonstrating enduring trust from alumni.
