BSAK Achieves Record GCSE Results For The Third Successive Year
Following last week’s record-breaking A Level results, BSAK concludes an outstanding 50th anniversary year with unparalleled GCSE results.
The number of students achieving top grades has increased for the third successive year. An exceptional 19% of GCSEs were graded at the highest possible grade 9, which is nearly five times the UK average. This is an increase from 18% in 2018. Students achieving grade 8 or 9 (equivalent to the old A*) is also the highest ever for the School at 37% which is 3% higher than last year’s previous record results.
As an academically non-selective school, these results represent BSAK’s full cohort.
To provide a more accurate comparison with other academically selective schools, we also publish our top 100 results which are comparable or better than many academically selective schools in the UAE and in the UK and provide a more rounded and detailed overview.
This year our Top 100 students achieved 43% 9 or 8 (A*) with a tremendous 24% grade 9s.
Headmaster Mark Leppard MBE commented: ‘These results are superb with well over a third of students achieving the highest grades of 8 or 9. With the UK National average at 11% it shows just how amazing these results are. I am incredibly proud of our students and their exceptional achievements as yet again they continue to exceed all expectations’. For the third successive year, BSAK students have achieved more than half of all grades at 9-7 (A*/A), with 56% of results at grade 7 or higher. Grades 9-5 (B and above) were also up 3% this year at 86%. Overall 95% of grades were at grade 4 (C and above). There were some exceptional personal achievements amongst this years results. 4 BSAK students achieved 7 or more 9 grades (there were only 732 students who achieved this worldwide last year). Impressively, well over half (67 of the 113 students) achieved 5 or more 9- 7 (A*/A) grades. Overall 95% of students achieved 5 or more 9-4 (A*-C) grades, including English and Maths.
Head of Secondary Teresa Woulfe said ‘We’ve seen a continued improvement in our results at BSAK over the last four years. This is the combined result of the determination, hard work and resilience of our amazing students and incredible staff. Putting these results into context; BSAK is a fully inclusive and academically non-selective school and by any measure these results are world-class. I am very proud of all of our students and our staff and would like to especially acknowledge the support from our parents to their children and our School community.’
