In 2016 the School introduced our first BTEC offering in Business and the following year introduced BTEC options in Engineering and Sport. The BTEC Level 3 Diploma provides an alternative Level 3 qualification for students who want a more hands-on and practical learning experience. The courses offer a blend of academic learning coupled with the real world application of their knowledge and skills through on-going assessment rather than terminal examinations. BTEC is the fastest growing qualification route to higher education in the UK, with 26% of students entering university with a BTEC qualification.
The evidence of the success both from the results and the student profiles which follow, clearly show both the value and also the high regard with which BTEC qualifications are held. As a result the School will be looking to further expand our offering of BTEC qualifications. We are currently exploring the possibility of further Level 3 BTEC qualifications in the form of a 90 Credit Diploma to be introduced in 2021-2022.This will allow students to study 1 BTEC qualification alongside two further A Levels.
If you are interested in exploring a BTEC route at BSAK please get in touch with our Sixth Form Team who will be happy to provide support and guidance (Alistair Thompson, [email protected]).

“I used to find end of year exams very daunting so the BTEC National Diploma in Business option came as a blessing to me. In BTEC, you are continually assessed via coursework and practical projects. I learned to work independently and build my confidence as assignments are based on building links with businesses. The course is highly interactive and helped me develop some key skills needed for my future studies and career. The course gave me a better understanding of the different areas within a business and helped me match my key strengths with different career paths.”
Neeraj Achan - BTEC Business
I am currently in the application stages for flight school and the BTEC Engineering course has helped me understand how to apply my educational work to real life situations. It has helped me develop problem solving skills and I feel it is good because you are judged over the two years of collective work and not just one exam, which decides what level you work at.
Max Leppard - BTEC Engineering
"For me, the BTEC Sport course has allowed me to focus and specialise in a subject that I am so passionate about. It has allowed me to not only progress forward with my academic studies, but has given me an advantage when I am performing in my sporting co-curricular activities due to the further information that we are taught in the classroom. The BTEC course has also given me a good insight to what studying at university will be like as we develop many transferable skills."
Joseph Brammer - BTEC Sport
