Excitement among BSAK’s mathematicians became exponential last week as they paid homage to #MathsWeek. Monday was #PiDay2022, and the Maths department celebrated all things Pi, with a Pi baking contest, Pi Art competition and the Pi recital.
It was wonderful to see so many students take part in these events, and the teachers who judged the Pi baking contest, had no need for lunch that day! It was also incredible to see how well many of our students were able to memorise the digits in Pi, with a number of them able to remember over 100 digits!
Quizzes and escape rooms followed, and we were amazed by the first ever BSAK Maths Escape Rooms that were constructed in the Auditorium. There were screams of joy (and fear!) as the 6 House Teams battled it out in an intense race to escape first. The teams demonstrated great resilience, super problem-solving skills and wonderful comradery as they worked their way through the tasks, which included puzzles, code breakers, riddles and a few surprises in the form of hidden messages! Griffin was crowned the first ever Champions of the Maths Escape Rooms, gallantly followed by Phoenix in second and Pegasus in third place.
The grand finale of our highly successful week, was a Pi in the face for each of our Maths Department. We were pretty impressed by this act of service to the student community, and it’s safe to say that it raised the excitement bar to an all time high. Happy Birthday Albert Einstein and thank you for your contribution to our enjoyment of Pi.
