When schools closed as a result of COVID-19, as Secretary General, I feared that I would no longer be able to conduct another BSAK MUN debate. As emails asking for another session were fired at me, I was quickly reminded that the students who came and attended MUN had a sincere passion to debate. On April 14th we had our first ever online MUN session and we discussed “should juveniles be tried and treated like adults?” Discussions started by defining “juveniles” and questioning each other followed, as the purpose of prisons were challenged: punishment or rehabilitation? All in all, it was a fantastic debate and hopefully the first of many.“ - Christian F- MUN Secretary General - BSAK Sixth Form Student
MUN is an academic simulation of the United Nations, and aims to educate participants about current events, international relations, diplomacy and the United Nations agenda. It provides students with the opportunity to develop a variety of communication and critical thinking skills including public speaking, group communication, research, policy analysis, conflict resolution and technical writing. It’s an excellent club for those interested in subjects such as current affairs and human rights issues or those considering a career in law, politics or diplomacy, to name a few.
Academic Enrichment beyond the classroom is a very important part of the Sixth Form experience at BSAK as it encourages and guides our students into leadership roles. Academic societies and clubs are created, developed and led by Sixth Form students, for other students, with teachers on hand to provide guidance. There are many academic societies and clubs to choose from and students are encouraged to join, lead and develop new leaders. Whether you have a passion for the subject, simply curious, or enjoy a good debate, these societies form a rich part of Sixth Form life at BSAK.
