It is not easy to describe what makes the Sixth Form at BSAK so successful. We can of course share exam results, awards and accolades which demonstrate the academic integrity of the School and the world-class education we provide, but there is so much more to BSAK.
It's a place where students start their journey into becoming young adults who will leave, ready to make their mark on the world. This is something that is done as a community at BSAK, with staff, leaders and parents providing a wealth of support through what is arguably one of the most challenging study periods of a young person’s life. We know our students well, we encourage and challenge them, we nurture them, we are a family unit that thrives; built on trust, honesty, boundaries and respect. We begin to develop this relationship with parents and students before they even join BSAK through a variety of events.
EXCEPTIONAL AND DIVERSE OPPORTUNITIES
Students are welcomed to Open Events with their parents where they tour the School facilities, meet students and staff and learn about the curriculum and opportunities available; with the widest choice of A Levels in Abu Dhabi and an unprecedented 7 BTECs on offer, there is a lot to take on board. Following this, students are invited to a Taster Day where they spend a day as a BSAK Sixth Form student alongside our current cohort. They experience the unrivalled co-curricular programme and see for themselves the extensive range of Academic Enrichment, Sports, Music and Performing Arts opportunities that Y12 and 13 students have access to. Potential students experience the warmth of the Sixth Form, affectionately known as the ‘White Shirts’ and see the rapport between students and staff.
WORLD-CLASS TEACHERS
We know at BSAK that the relationship between parents and School is vital to the success of our students; we also know the challenges and concerns that parents face when selecting Sixth Form education for their child. This week saw a Meet The Team Event for prospective students and parents, an opportunity to tour the facilities, to ask questions and address any concerns. The low turnover, consistent approach and expertise of staff at BSAK, all play a large part in helping students to settle in. The close-knit team focuses on helping students to develop as individuals as well as offering practical sessions to develop independent thinking and skills, maximising their learning potential. An example of this is the Future Leaders Diploma, an academic and leadership enrichment programme unique to BSAK. There are four strands to this, including an accredited City & Guilds, ILM Level 2 Award for Young Leaders qualification and a mini MBA. This gives our students a stand-out personal profile for their university application, along with providing vital life skills that they will take on to their life beyond school.
GUIDANCE FOR THE FUTURE
To meet the challenges and demands of students becoming Global Citizens, Christine Mannion, our dedicated careers adviser, creates a culture of vision and ambition for our students. One-to- one support sessions are mandatory for all students, assisting them with their university choices and applications or alternative avenues that students may wish to pursue. This bespoke service supports students in achieving their ambitions and is a great opportunity for every BSAK student to embrace. Parents are invited to informative and helpful meetings to discuss the university application process and practicalities such as obtaining Home Status when applying for places. Mostly recently a Careers Evening brought together Professionals such as Lawyers, Doctors, Engineers and Pilots alongside BSAK alumni sharing their educational and career pathways. These unique experiences have a huge impact on our students providing them practical advice, inspiration and vision on their individual pathways.
BSAK offers a bespoke experience; with world class teachers, a wonderful support network and a wealth of opportunities for students to embrace. Students at BSAK are proud to achieve and proud to be a part of The British School Al Khubairat; it really is a very special place.
