Huge congratulations to our COBIS U13 team for bringing the cup home again! After an epic three days of top class performances in the pool, on the track, field and football pitch, against 21 other British Schools from across the globe, BSAK tied with Dubai College for first place.

The team of 8 girls and 8 boys travelled from with 4 of the school’s coaches to Sheffield for this year’s games. The first day saw the swimmers take to the pool with passion and determination, winning medal after medal across butterfly, breaststroke, backstroke and medley relays. A medal haul which resulted in an incredible first place on the podium.

As the sun beat down on Sheffield and a bit of Royal Wedding fever in the air, the level of excitement was intense at the athletics stadium on Saturday.  The weeks of training combined with sheer determination on the day paid off and the medals racked up across track and field.  Towards the end of the day a very unlucky incident in the boy’s relay meant that we lost a hefty 80 points, but our score was so far ahead at that stage that we still managed to pull off fourth place overall, a result that amazed and delighted our team and staff.   

Now lying in second place overall, as day dawned on the football pitches on Sunday, our teams came in with a real fighting spirit, knowing exactly what had to be done.  Competition was fierce and legs were tired, but our young athletes battled through the ranks. The ambitious Boys’ football team had a great start, winning their group convincingly; but then unfortunately lost a harsh penalty shoot-out in the quarter finals. With hopes wailing, all eyes turned to the girls – could they do it? Again convincing wins saw them battle through the group stages and into the finals, earning a meeting with St. Catherine’s Luxembourg in the final. The girls managed their nerves, played superbly and an awesome header from Flora saw the girls win 1-0! They’d gone all the way, but what did this mean points wise?

A long and very nervous wait as the points were tallied.  All the early mornings, preparation and resilience had paid off – first place, joint with Dubai College!  The atmosphere was electric and students were ecstatic, all the more as this is a treble win.  COBIS U13 champions for 3 years in a row is an achievement that has never been accomplished before.

We are very proud of our team and parents for their support both here and in Sheffield and to our dedicated sports department for this remarkable success.
