Fostering creativity, working together and innovation in the classroom are all on the timetable at a community education initiative set to launch this May.

Jointly led by British School Al Khubairat, Cranleigh Abu Dhabi and Brighton College, the BBC Teaching Conference on 12th May is a one-day event that will see teachers and school leaders across the city unite to discuss educational topics.

Founded with the goal of providing a platform for idea exchange and fostering professional connections, the grassroots event will feature a keynote speech by educationalist David Didau, as well as workshops and opportunities for career development.

“We’ve always kept everything within the confines of our own schools here, but we’re not competitors,” explained Nigel Davis, deputy head teacher of secondary at British School Al Khubairat.

“We’re lucky that we have really high calibre professionals here who have a lot to offer. Lots of staff bring new initiatives, new ways of teaching and new ideas about how students learn best with them. What we want to do is spread that knowledge much wider, and we hope that this event will be the launch pad for that.”

With approximately 300 education professionals expected to attend, the key focus is to encourage skill exchange on a local level.

“Teaching is one of those things that is a whole host of different techniques, and the more ideas you have, the more you can add to your own experience and the better the teacher you’ll become,” Nigel added.

“The skillsets we have in our schools when combined can produce wonderful results – we should be sharing this and we should have a collaborative approach to improving teaching in the city. It’s about getting the best for Abu Dhabi’s young people.”
