The Duke of Edinburgh Award is the world’s leading youth achievement awards programme, and BSAK has one of the largest cohorts of participants in the world, with 300 students currently working towards their Bronze/Silver and Gold Awards across Years 10 to 13.
Community is key to life at BSAK and attaining a DofE award submerges our students in the local community, allowing them to develop new skills, push boundaries, and grow in confidence.
Our Year 12 DofE Gold students have just returned from Mauritius where they have been undertaking the final part of their award. DofE awards focus on Physical, Service and Skills and over the past 12 months, our Gold Award students have taking part in volunteering (many with a BSAK club or in the Primary School), physical programmes (many with sport teams) and learning new skills (eg music or first aid). Students also undertook an ‘Adventurous Journey’ section, completing a demanding 4 day desert and mountain expedition.
The final section is the Residential Project which for BSAK is completed as a community project in pre-primary schools, orphanages and community centres in Mauritius.
Teamwork is instrumental to DofE success and our students completing the demanding expeditions build resilience and confidence, thus providing strong stepping stones on a path to a productive and prosperous future.
