BSAK triumphed at The UAE Teen Sports And Fitness Awards at the weekend, the premier awards in the region.

The BSAK 7s Series won ‘Best Sporting Event’; an amazing achievement for the school.  The BSAK 7s Festivals are a series of tournaments – Rugby, Netball and Football –which are held over the school year. The three prestigious events are organised by the BSAK Heads of Sport and supported by the PE Department and volunteers from across the School community. 

“The BSAK 7s series is a celebration of sport – rugby, netball and football – and we always look forward to watching the competition and games between the 200 teams that take part. For the school, the BSAK 7s series is one of the biggest annual events and I am proud of the hundreds of volunteer, teachers, parents and students, who come together to make the event what it is.  It is a real community event that showcases the best sport and the true spirit of BSAK” added Jonathan Coombs, BSAK Director of Sport.

In 2017/18 the series involved 200 teams from 26 schools from across the UAE.  556 games were played involving 2320 students across the tournaments.

Huge congratulations to the organisers – Rob Kirkland (Football), Matt Thomas (Rugby) and Vicky Bolger (Netball).

BSAK students and staff also prevailed in the individual categories.

Ali Thomson was awarded 2^nd Place in the ‘Best Coach’ award, an outstanding achievement after his long standing service to the U19 rugby squads culminating in the girls winning the U19 Dubai 7s last year and the boys winning the U19 tournament this year.

Nominated by their out of school sports clubs, Neve in Year 8 was awarded 2^nd place in the U14 awards for her achievements in athletics, and Caitlin in Year 13 was awarded 3^rd place in ‘Sporting Inspiration of the Year’ after a hugely successful year in netball. 

A great night celebrating the success of an excellent year of sport – we are so proud of our staff and students.
