The Royal Society of Chemistry (RSC) Olympiad is a leading chemistry competition for students aged 16-19. Run annually, the Olympiad is an opportunity for teachers to challenge their chemistry students, helping them to develop problem solving skills and apply familiar knowledge in new and interesting contexts.
BSAK entered this prestigious competition for the first time this year, and our selected Year 13 chemists have been busy preparing since September. An impressive 5822 students sat the initial round, which involved answering a challenging 100 question paper, based on real-world chemistry problems, in an hour and a half.
The hard work paid off and the RSC awarded Amna a Gold Award, Ardushi a Silver Award, Sophia a Bronze Award and Mohammed a participation certificate for their worthy contribution. The Chemistry department and BSAK as a whole are very proud of their achievement.
The Olympiad is a great opportunity for our students to develop and showcase the skills they need for university and beyond, and we look forward to continued participation in the RSC Olympiad in future years.
