The British School Al Khubairat, sponsored by Novus, had an outstanding weekend at Dubai College, competing in the U13 COBIS Games. A event made up of Swimming (Day 1), Athletics (Day 2) and Football (Day 3), created many moments of drama as schools competed against 20 international schools for the coveted COBIS Champions title.
Day 1 in the pool, BSAK were in phenomenal form, demonstrating depth and excellence in their Swim Squad. Many notable performances, including Isabel Darling, Alecos Cristaldi and Ethan Collings producing moments of magic in their finals, were on show and resulted in a string of podium appearances and a final placing of 1st for the COBIS Games Swimming Championship.
Day 2, Athletics, was to prove the most challenging day but the children turned up and gave their all; performing strongly enough to gain a credited 3rd place, behind Dubai College and Kings College Madrid.
Day 3 and onto the Football, where girls and boys played in separate teams and both faced a tough draw. The children knew they had to place in the top 3 for an overall podium finish, so the pressure was on from the start. The boys started with all guns blazing, winning every game in their pools, whilst the girls had a somewhat slower start, however, doing enough to make the quarter finals. The boys were into their stride until they faced tense moments with a penalty shoot out in the semi final, reaching 12-12 before Charlie Collings saved and then converted his penalty to take them into the Final. In the final of the boys Football, BSAK stormed into a 4-0 lead with a hatrick from Timi Esan and ended the game comfortably 5-1 to be crowned boys champions. The girls battled valiantly to the semi final where they fell just short, however, produced an excellent display in the 3rd/4th playoff to take 3rd overall against Dubai College. With points added together, BSAK claimed 1stoverall for Football
A fantastic, competitive weekend was rounded off with a Gala Dinner, attended by the very supportive parents and continuously hard working teachers. BSAK were sure they had done enough for a podium place, however, unsure on the colour of it. Much to the delight of the whole school: children, staff and parents, BSAK proudly accepted the COBIS U13 Champions Trophy, finishing 1st place in a very tight final standings over Dubai College and Kings College Madrid.
A massive thank you to all the hard work the children and teachers who trained them put in, as well as our fantastic sponsors Novus.
